Corporate Overview- Sustainable Development:

The UAE's first President, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan al Nahyan (may God bless his soul) had a vision and the harmonized plans he led from the 1970's onwards, has allowed the UAE to make significant progress in economic, social and environmental issues. The harmonization of these three elements or ‘Sustainable Development' as defined by the United Nations, means:

“Development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”

Sheikh Zayed was posthumously honored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on 12th April 2005 as one of seven “champions of the Earth” for his lifetime's work to protect the environment. ZADCO has been privileged to contribute to his vision.

ZADCO's Contributions to Sustainable Development are outlined as follows:

Economic Sustainability

Zadco's production represents approximately one quarter of the UAE's oil production and will continue to grow as it manages the development of the Upper Zakum Field, the 4th largest oil field in the world. It produces significant daily revenues that contribute to investments in large infrastructure projects, public services, heavy industries, and agriculture and land reclamation projects.

Social Sustainability

The economic aspects mentioned above also brought about significant social benefits and will continue to improve year on year. ZADCO contributes in many ways:
  • Employment and the gradual Emiratisation of its workforce.
  • Health Services for all employees
  • Promoting educational institutions
  • Community Welfare projects
One other important Corporate Social Responsibility that ZADCO promotes is sound business ethics, as outlined in our Business Principles document.

Environment Responsibility

ZADCO has made significant efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations and its achievements in reducing/eliminating flaring and emissions, discharges, oil spills, etc. are comparable with the world's best. Our oil processing island (Zirku) is environmentally unique. The UAE Government Agency's survey, conducted in 2001, witnessed that 100 turtle nesting places were found along the coastline of the island.

The Challenges Ahead

Although ZADCO has already made a considerable contribution to sustainable development, we will strive to further raise our performance, thus ensuring that future generations gain the full benefit from our Company's operations.
